In class we learned that the official date for the fall of the Roman Empire in the west is 476 AD.  However, it took hundreds of years for Rome to decline, and we discussed may reasons why this happened.  Based on what we studied, what do you think was the biggest problem, or contributing factor, for the fall of Rome?  Why?
 
If you could have lived in any of the ancient river valley civilizations discussed in class (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Indus Valley, or the Huang He Valley), where would you choose to live?  Why?

We learned in class that the Agricultural (Neolithic) Revolution caused the beginnings of cities and civilization.  Do you believe we could have the type of society we have today if this had not happened?  What would be different?

    Raphael's School of Athens

    Painted during the Italian Renaissance, this painting depicts Greek philosophers and four different branches of knowledge.  In Ancient Greece, "school" meant discussing differing ideas and philosophies, and learning through discussion.  We continue this tradition here, in a 21st century format!
